10,001 Ways to Live Large on a Small Budget

by Efin Advisor | May 6, 2009

A new book, organized as a type of ‘frugal encyclopedia’, based on articles written by the editors of Wisebread.com, offers up a smorgasbord of tips on how to live large on a small budget.

Speaking of smorgasbords, the pointers range from “8 Tips for Getting the Most from All-You-Can-Eat Buffets” to  “7 Ways to Score Free Food,” and “14 Tips to Have a Frugal Vacation and Still Treat Yourself,” to “15 Ways to Make Your Clothes Last Longer,” “10 Beauty Products You Can Make at Home,” and “8 Affordable Romantic Dates.”

You’ll also find “50 Ways to Get More Out Of Health Care,”  “6 Ways to Avoid Tricky Supermarket Traps,” “10 Ways to Go Green and Save Money,” and “6 Steps to Eliminating Your Debt Painlessly.”

What are your tips for living large on a small budget?

Kimberly Palmer, Senior Editor for U.S. News and World Report had this to say:

“This book is just what we need right now – a reminder that tough economic times don’t mean we have to stop living well.”

You can pick up a copy of 10,001 Ways to Live Large on a Small Budget at Amazon.com for around 10 bucks.

I think this book already exists. It is called Steal This Book and was written by 60s radical Abby Hoffman. It was about how to live life for free. Obviously this is slightly different, but i guess this would be a 21st century update of the 60s genre book

I wonder how much this book costs. Perhaps if this book were to be truly utilized, people would take it out from the library. Just sayin…

I may go and buy this book, but I want to look at the original website to see if the tips are useful first

That didn’t take long. I’m surprised it took even this long for a book on how to live well in a bad economy to come out. This book is obviously going to be immensely useful, and I think i may go out and get a copy for myself, if nothing else to see what ideas it has.

Americans have been accused of living beyond their means for too long. If that’s true we either have to learn how to live more frugally or learn how to continue to live large on a more frugal budget. Given the choice, I like the idea of using the 10,001 ways in this book to live large for less!

I find that consolidating our family’s cell phone accounts under one family plan, sharing our video rentals under one Netflix plan (including free PC doanloads), and merging our phone, cable TV and Internet into one packaged account has saved a bundle!

In my family we reuse everything that we possibly can. Teabags, aluminum foil, we use newspaper instead of toilet paper, rinse and dry paper towels, and I try to use every part of any food i get. chicken bones and gizzards make good bases for soup etc. I save a couple hundred dollars a month this way.
