Celebrating “The Year of the Ox”

by Efin Advisor | February 14, 2009

The Chinese New Year has begun with fireworks and celebration. This year marks “The Year of the Ox.”  People born in the “Year of the Ox” are said to be patient, speak softly, and inspire confidence in others.  Perhaps the children of this “Year of the Ox” will acquire those characteristics, qualities which are so important to turning the corner in our national economic recovery.

We hope for the strength and patience that are necessary to pull together as a people and create a renewed sense of purpose.  Indeed, without the patience to withstand economic adversity, we risk losing the resolve and commitment to see our way through the challenges we face and press forward to the dawn of a new day, and a new era,  in our nation’s economic revival.

“The Year of the Ox”  symbolizes the inner strength and power to engender progress and create confidence.   It is confidence that is needed to generate the momentum needed for recovery.

In this “Year of the Ox,” will our elected politicians be able to truly speak less and listen more? Will they plow ahead with the quiet determination of the Ox?  A new commitment in this new year is the way towards the future.  Let us “speed the plow” and harvest what we sow together.  Tell us, what does “The Year of the Ox”  symbolize to you?

I dunno, this year isn’t starting off so hot for me and will probably end up representing a key point in my life. I was planning on retiring soon since both of my kids have graduated from college and seem to be alright on their own. I’m worried about how much money I’ve lost recently. If i can make it through this year alright, I think life will work out well for my wife and me. If not, the future is going to be a struggle.

I’m keeping it positive for this year. Like, obviously this year is a time of hardship, but its also a time of faith. I have faith that g-d and our nation will be able to help us get through these times. I have faith that people will treat each ohter well in hard times and that will create a greater sense of solidarity amongst people. That’s the key for our own survival. If we all lend a hand and help each other out, we will see recovery and prosperity.

I’m not worried one bit. I’ve invested in the right products from the beginning and while everyone else is suffering, I’m doing fine. The key is investing in things that the common man can use no matter what situation. People will always want to eat a dollar menu, especially when money is tight. I’m contributing more and more of that money to charity though, since people really need it. After all we do have to spread the wealth.

Also, isn’t speed the plow that play Jeremy Piven backed out of from having mercury poisoning?

I really like this post. I think its interesting to think about what the year is supposed to symbolize: patience, soft-speaking, and inspiring confidence. I really see strong analogies to american politics right now with these adjective. Obama has asked the american people to be patient, attempted to inspire and has inspired much confidence in our people and isn’t being too pushy about anything. I think these are the model words for how we should be acting in this circumstance, so its kind of funny that these are the http://www.efinancialblog.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php?apage=10#words that were preordained to describe the year.

So, obviously inspiring confidence would be great, but I’m not sure if i really want patience. I mean, i know its a virtue and all, but this economic situation isn’t something we can just wait to end. We ened immediate action and we need help. I’m barely surviving day to day, so when I’m told to be patient, I get worried. I’m hoping that the WPA happens soon so there are more jobs available and more money to be earned.
