A New President, and a new Precedent for Change

by Efin Advisor | January 20, 2009

Barack Obama has been sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America.  In his speech,  Obama discussed the challenges facing America and Americans.  As one of our colleagues observed, his evocation of George Washington at the end of his address made it clear that he regards the perils that face the country as almost no less daunting than those that it confronted in battling for its independence. His inaugural address, sober and dignified, has set the foundation for constructing a new gleaming edifice of democracy. It is up to us as much as Obama to construct

The President emphasized not so much sacrifice but responsibility. His call was to the citizenry of America and of the planet to not sit idly but to take heed, take action, and help build the future

In this historic moment, we at Efinancial want to know where you were, what you were doing, and what you thought of his inaugural address?

I was watching the inaugural address on tv with my daughters and explaining the importance of this moment in history.

The President’s address reminded me of the address given by John F. Kennedy at his inaugural – The request for all of us to take action and do our part to further this country.

The change will come in time, but what will it cost?

After the address I sat with my children and watched the video tape of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech to further ingrain the import of this moment in history in my childrens’ memory, and to show them how the civil rights movement has evlolved over the past 50 years in our nation’s history.

I will never forget watching Barack Obama being sworn in. It truly was a historic event and a turning point in american history and politics. Teh world will end up seeing ht United states in a different way now, as a more peaceful and cooperative nation. I cannot wait to see the bills that are passed, the rules that are promulgated, and the way our nation changes in the coming months and years. We have a lot to do and with great leadership, we will accomplish it

What a fantastic speech. It sounded so presidential and powerful. He sent a clear strong message to all americans. I think even those who were non-supporters probably came around yesterday with that excellent speech explaining our problems and giving us a road map for a way out. Tis truly a time of rejuvenation, relief, and recovery for america. Obama will lead us into the future as a bright new nation

I’ll be honest, and this is coming from ap erson who whole heartedly supported Obama and still does, i thought his speech was nothing special. I was expecting a lot more from one of the great orators of our time. I was expecting “we have nothing to fear but fear itself” or “ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country” and i just didnt feel it. It was just another generic obama speech. It gave us hope, but i feel like he has built himself up so that he has to give us more than hope but an extreme sense of pride and committment to america. I think he’ll do a good job, i just dont think his speech was all that speical

I had tears in my eyes while watching President Obama be sworn in yesterday. It was truly a historic turning point for America, not just because he is African American, but because his presidency will surely represent an about-face for the current state of the country. We need a true reformer in the White House, and Obama is the president this country needs and deserves right now. We will right the wrongs of the Bush administration and put our country back on track for greatness. Watching that inauguration was like watching America be reborn.
