How to Shop for Car Insurance

efin99While we at Efinancial are very concerned about your life insurance needs, we realize you have other insurance needs as well.  So today we’d like to help you drive a better bargain with the one form of insurance you are legally required to possess if you get behind the wheel of a car:  Auto Insurance.  You cannot drive in the United States without having an automotive insurance policy. Yet it often proves to be very difficult to buy exactly what you need at the price you want.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when determining who your auto insurance provider will be.

1.    Determine how much coverage you need. If you are willing to pay a higher deductible, you may be able to lower your rates.  So if you drive infrequently, this may be the best policy for you.  If you have children at college, make sure you can specify in your policy that they only drive a few months out of the year.  Size up  these sorts of details beforehand, so you can compare the price of each potential insurer on our list for the same services.  It is also essential to know if your state requires a certain level of coverage, so you comply with those requirements

2.    Shop around for prices. The internet has made shopping for insurance vastly easier than it was for older generations.  Get rate quotes from each company. Many companies even offer comparison quotes to give you as much information — and choices –  as possible.

3.    Find out as much information about your insurer and your policy. Before you sign any contracts, make sure you know who you are working with.  Ask to speak with a representative and ask as many questions about your policy as possible.  A legitimate insurance company will be willing to answer your questions and work with you.  Find out what limitations there are in your policy, so you do not exceed them.  Many companies have conditions that are second nature to them, but you may not realize that they exist.  Find out as much as you can so you do not make any costly mistakes.  You may also be interested in how they handle their customer service, to see if it enhances or detracts from the cost.

What are you automotive insurance buying experiences?  Do you find shopping for car insurance easier or more difficult than other types of insurance?

First! Also, I’m new to buying insurance and I noticed in this article that you talked about legitimate car insurance companies. Are there illegitimate car insurance people I should look out for? I thought it was just like geico, progressive etc.

Predatory is how i would describe these “choose your own rates” places. High deductibles and the appeal of low rates drive stupid people into bankruptcy when the under-insured get into accidents and can’t afford the deductible or are lacking he necessary coverage.

I find shopping for car insurance easier than shopping for other kinds of insurance. Mostly because the different companies are so well publicized through TV and online. It can be hard to find even where to look for health insurance and other kinds thus how i found this blogg :)
