I think the most important thing to do is to elect leaders to the government who have the knowledge and ideas to bring America out of this slump. I support Barack Obama because I believe that his plans, like increased regulation, will help us move forward.

Regulation is the key. Businesses have proven that the market does not solve. Whether we need a new governmental administrative agency to track oversignt on banks (other than the treasury) is unclear, but some sort of controls need to be put in place.

The government should inject more capital into the banking system, to solve the solvency crisis that’s currently going on. Regardless of what the government does, however, the problem will get worse before it gets better and there is little that can be done to stop that.

It’s a tough problem – and a depressing one. People need to start taking responsibility for their spending and debt. But even in the worst times, it’s good to find something to laugh about – maybe especially in the worst times. I found this bailout video that made me laugh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZUXXSxZPhw

i wish that our next president will really make a difference for energy savings and make it easier to find jobs and a president that will try to set the economy back track to get us out of this crisis!and i hope i win!

How can America better manage its finance’s?
people need to take responsibility for their own debt, and not give up when things get tough by declaring bankruptcy. People need to live within their means. Do you really need a 60″ flat screen t.v.? What about that 40k suv?
How can America improve its home mortgage system?
business needs to take responsibility, and not lend to people who cannot afford to pay back the loans. Mortgage company’s got greedy, and shot themselves in the foot i.e. loaning $300k to a couple who worked at McDonald’s (not management). Do we really need to bail out banks that made that decision? shouldn’t we take the Darwinist view and let the weakest banks go instinct.
Regulations can only do so much, I think better enforcement of current regulations in place will go a long way to fixing the problems.
I do think that infusing cash into banks should open credit markets and get banks lending to each other, which will in turn open credit to consumers and small business owners.
We could regulate more, and pore billions of dollars to bail out the banks, but don’t we as Americans need to change our thinking about consumerism.

less spending, support local economies, help your neighbor, we ALL need to be on board, not just public officials.

People need to take responsibility for their own actions…people shoudn’t borrow what they can’t afford to pay back, should plan for the future, and not expect the government to help them because they lived beyond their means. Hopefully this crisis will help people get back to reality.

I feel that as an American I should be able to get my medicine every month for under $300.00 dollars. Here we are the richest country in the world and our people are dying because we cannot afford our medicine. Yet we donate to everyone else and they receive the same medicine Free. It is sad. i worry every month where the money is gonna come because without it I would die. we need to take care of business at home before saving the world.
